Is SHAIL really free?
Yes. The core local-first memory layer is free forever. This includes local AI chat capture, retroactive capture, blueprint generation, and local search. Since these processes run on your local machine using SQLite and ChromaDB, they do not incur server costs, allowing us to keep them free.
What is open-source?
The local capture pipeline, Blueprint engine, and storage framework are open-source. We believe that the foundational database of your digital work history must be transparent, verifiable, and completely under your control where privacy and trust matter most.
Why pay for Pro?
Pro unlocks the active layer of SHAIL. This includes Assist Mode (which gives ambient contextual suggestions), advanced context injection, priority indexing, and Ghost Cursor guided/semi-automatic workflow execution where SHAIL starts acting on your behalf in the browser.
Does my data leave my machine?
No, not by default. SHAIL is designed with a local-first architecture. All context capture, indexing, and search happen on your local computer. Cloud reasoning is completely optional and only engaged if you route tasks to cloud models.
